Health In Glasgow is skilled in a variety of techniques some of which include:
Muscle energy techniques – A painless muscle stretching technique which lengthens muscles, decreasing pain and stiffness, increases function and helps to reduce compression, restriction associated with joint pain and stiffness
Cranial and functional techniques – Subtle, painless but powerful techniques which work with the fluid, bone and tissue within the body to release tension and increase function. These techniques help balance and maintain the whole body so that the body’s own healing mechanism can be fully expressed (A great technique for all ages particularly babies and children)
Articulation – Moving of the joints and tissues to increase the drainage of toxins, increase nutrition i.e. oxygen and chemicals for repair, release tension and increase mobility
Soft tissue work – Techniques involving a direct hands-on approach to the muscles such as massage. These techniques help to ease the pain and stiffness often found in muscles, realign and break down muscle fibres (knots) and increase the chemicals needed for healing and repair. This direct technique can sometimes be uncomfortable, but Claire will only ever work within each individuals pain threshold.
Manipulation – This is a technique where a restricted and often painful joint is placed in a position that enables the osteopath to ‘open’ the joint. This ‘opening’ of a joint is really just a quick movement of the joint in a specific direction that relays back to the brain that the joint can release. The audible ‘click’ that is sometimes heard is the gases within the joint fluid escaping under the vacuum effect created through the quick movement. This technique often results in reduced pain, stiffness and increased movement in the joint.
Manipulation continued – Manipulation is only used when appropriate and is a safe technique. Osteopaths look at factors within the case history such as blood pressure, cardiovascular history, age, body type and much more to determine whether manipulative treatment would be beneficial in each individual case
Some individuals prefer not to receive manipulations, this is no problem as there are many other techniques to ease a joint and surrounding tissue. Claire will never perform a manipulation before explaining the process, asking if you are comfortable with this form of treatment and gaining permission first)
